Welcome to Made for Flight

Made for Flight is a Transgender youth and ally empowerment project created by TC Tolbert and run in conjunction with Casa Libre en la Solana. Made for Flight receives gracious funding from the Kresge Arts in Tucson grant via Tucson Pima Arts Council and the Alliance Fund's Queer Youth Initiative grant. Thank you both!

This workshop series incorporates transgender history, ally development, creative writing, and kite building to commemorate the lives of the transgender individuals who have been murdered in the last year.

Thank you's!

We would just like to take a moment to thank Ethan St. Pierre for maintaining the Transgender Day of Remembrance website.  We use this incredibly valuable resource a lot here at Made for Flight and we couldn't do this project without his work.  Thank you, Ethan!  Please visit his site at http://www.transgenderdor.org/

We would also like to thank the folks at Transgender Europe who maintain the Trans Murder Monitoring Project.  This is another invaluable site.  Thank you all!  http://www.transrespect-transphobia.org/

Made for Flight in 2011

Made for Flight is thrilled to announce our recent funding from the Kresge Arts in Tucson grant via the Tucson Pima Arts Council and the Queer Youth Initiative grant from the Alliance Fund!  These grant awards are making it possible for Made for Flight to continue and thrive.  Thank you to these amazing organizations!

This year we are expanding our workshop series and would love to work with your youth!  We can bring Made for Flight to your school or youth group or you can join existing workshops at Casa Libre on 4th Ave.  Workshops will be held September 1 thru November 15, 2011.  Trangender Day of Remembrance is November 20, 2011. If you are interested in joining or supporting Made for Flight, hosting and/or attending a workshop, walking with Made for Flight in the Dia de los Muertos/ All Souls Procession, and/or joining us for Transgender Day of Remembrance, please contact me at tctolbert74(at)gmail.com.  I would love to hear from you!

We Remember Every Day

Today, Nov 20, is the official Transgender Day of Remembrance.  For those of us in Tucson, we will gather at Catalina Park (4th Ave and 2nd St) at 5:30pm and call out the names of those transgender people who were murdered in the last year.  This is a day for the living and the dead.  This is a day for transgender people and it is a day for those who are not transgender.  We cannot, nor should we have to, do this alone.  If you are an ally, please join us in remembering.  Please stand alongside us.  We need you there.  Thank you.

Good Press (and a tiny misquote!)

Check out the interview with TC Tolbert in the Tucson Weekly!  And please note that TC said that Chattanooga was the "buckle" of the Bible Belt - not the "butthole"!  Oh dear!  What a misquote!  The rest of the article is true.  And a big thank you to A. Greene for conducting the interview and getting it into the Weekly! http://www.tucsonweekly.com/tucson/t-qanda/Content?oid=2333288
